People across the world are turning towards meditation for good health of body and mind. Truely health and happiness lies within and not outside. As home is dear to everybody, inner self is the source of all peace, bliss and power. For this in meditation one meditates upon oneself. Meditator, meditation and meditated become one. In my earlier article 'Meditation is a journey inwards' I have described what is meditation. In this article I shall describe three methods of meditation.
1. By chanting of OM mind gets concentrated to a great extent. Ancient saints of India realised that the vibratory sound of OM is of great help for meditating mind and controlling body. The sound of OM has an intimate relation with inner self. As a good song is heart touching so the sound of OM is touching to inner self. OM is a prayer or hymn for the self. For this it is called Mahamantra(great hymn). For chanting OM one should sit down in a lotus posture(padmasana) with eyes closed. One should inhale fully and then chant OM slowly but loudly till the exhalation is complete. Sound should come out equally from nose and mouth. While chanting mind should be kept on the sound and see or think nothing else because one is meditating upon oneself. After half an hour of chanting one shall feel the concentration of mind and bliss of meditation. The vibration of Om activates all the cells in the body. All cells dance to the tune of OM. By this body and mind gets purified.
2. In the second method one should sit down in a lotus posture with eyes closed. Then one should try to see a point in between eyebrows and just above the nose. This point
Eyes and mind has an intimate relationship. Eyes are the doors of mind. Through eyes it is possible to study one's mind. For this when one sees and concentrates on Trikuti mind gets concentrated. This method shall be more effective if it is done after chanting of OM. Trikuti is a place of outer mind. When one concetrates on Trikuti for longer one travels inwards to inner self. This can happen only after years of practice.
3. In the third method one should lie on a flat surface in Sukhasana with face upwards and hands and legs stretched. Then one should keep mind on the movement of breath(prana) across the nostrils. This method should be practiced after chanting of OM. Since body is at rest movement of breath slows down. Since mind is kept on breath mind also slows down. After half an hour mind slows down to a great extent and haults on Trikuti. There mind and breath become one. Breath is not simply a movement of air. It is the life force(prana) that moves across the nostrils. So one gains control over the mind and Prana. Since mind and Prana is omnipresent in the body, one gains control over the mind, Prana and body. So one gets peace and bliss of mind and body.
